About
The Centre for Philological Research and Multicultural Dialogue (CCFDM) was established at the initiative of the Department of Romanian Language and Literature within the Faculty of History and Philology (currently the Faculty of History, Letters and Educational Sciences), in response to the need to provide an organised framework for the extensive research activities undertaken by the university’s academic staff. The Centre has been operational since 2004 and was authorised by the Senate of the University in June 2005, in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Research and the applicable internal regulations; it was reauthorised in 2025.
The Centre’s principal objective is to promote interdisciplinary research projects and multicultural dialogue, in keeping with the current orientation of national culture, research and education within the broader context of European integration. Its primary aim is to conduct research and develop interdisciplinary studies that contribute to an in-depth understanding of the phenomena connecting Romanian culture with European cultures, by exploring cultural intersections and the reciprocal images that cultures develop throughout their historical evolution. These areas of investigation include the stages and forms of contact between Romanian, European and global cultures; Romanian cultural figures abroad and foreign cultural figures in Romania; aspects of national and international periodical publishing; memoirs and memorial literature; literary archives; and related fields.
The Centre also seeks to establish strong and productive partnerships with cultural institutions, research centres, and cultural figures both in Romania and abroad, with a view to developing research projects and other cultural activities that foster intercultural, interethnic and interfaith dialogue, while highlighting aspects related to tradition and to cultural, literary and artistic identity.
To ensure the timely dissemination of research findings, the CCFDM, together with the academic staff of the Department of Philology, publishes the journal ANNALES UNIVERSITATIS APULENSIS. SERIES PHILOLOGICA. The journal was reaccredited in 2009 and classified in category B+ by CNCSIS, and is indexed in the international databases CEEOL (Central and East European Online Library), ERIH PLUS, and EBSCO. In 2026, the journal underwent a new evaluation by the National Council for Scientific Research (CNCS) and was classified in category B.
