The First International Humboldtian Conference. "Sustainability for Humanity — Humanity for Sustainability". June 11th-14th, 2025

Between June 11th –14th, 2025, the "1 Decembrie 1918" University of Alba Iulia and the Geomatics and Environmental Engineering Research Center had the honor of hosting the First International Conference of the Humboldt Network, a landmark event for the academic and research community. The meeting brought together researchers, university professors and specialists from various fields providing a framework for interdisciplinary dialogue and the exchange of ideas at international level.

The conference was not only an opportunity to share the most recent scientific results, but also a chance to strengthen academic collaborations and to open new research opportunities in the spirit of the values promoted by the Humboldt Foundation.

Below are the main events of the conference:

On June 12th, 2025, the Geomatics and Environmental Engineering Research Center had the honor of welcoming the only Romanian astronaut, Dumitru Prunariu, as a special guest in Auditorium A9 to deliver a keynote speech entitled 'Promoting a Sustainable Approach to Future Lunar Exploration'.

  

On June 13th, 2025, the Geomatics and Environmental Engineering Research Center organized a Session for Young Researchers, hosting a number of master’s students, PhD candidates, and young PhDs — potential future Humboldtians in Germany — to present their scientific research activities.

    

On June 14th, 2025, the Geomatics and Environmental Engineering Research Center carried out a Follow-up Activity, which included study visits to the National Museum of the Union and to Museikon.

   

The Geomatics and Environmental Engineering Research Center also published the book entitled "Sustainability for Humanity — Humanity for Sustainability".

Together for the Earth. April 3rd—4th, 2025

Together for the Earth is a competition organized by “1 Decembrie 1918” University of Alba Iulia, Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering, Department of Cadastre, Civil Engineering, and Environmental Engineering, on April 3rd–4th, 2025.

The competition involves creating and presenting projects centered on the challenges cities must address when transitioning toward a more circular system.

The goal of the competition is to spur new, innovative projects and to promote the knowledge and culture of the circular economy. Participants will have the opportunity to put their understanding and passion for the circular economy into practice, applying its principles to redesign the urban context while tackling predefined challenges. The focus will be on three main areas: Waste, Mobility, and Construction.

PARTICIPATION RULES

Together for the Earth is open to students in engineering fields, as well as high-school students interested in environmental protection, sustainable development, and the circular economy, who want to develop innovative projects at the local level.

Registration is done individually by filling out the registration form.

When registering, each candidate guarantees that the provided information is genuine.

EVALUATION AND PRIZES

At the end of the competition, each team will present its project in a PDF/PPT pitch.

The jury will assess the pitch based on:

  • Complexity of the solution
  • Degree of innovation
  • Contribution to the implementation of a circular economy
  • Social impact
  • Degree of sustainability
  • Practical applicability
  • Quality of the presentation

Each criterion is scored by the jury on a scale of 1 to 5, with a maximum total score of 35 points.
