REGULATION ON THE ORGANIZATION AND OPERATION OF THE RESEARCH CENTER IN MATHEMATICS AND COMPUTER SCIENCE
Mission
The Research Center in Mathematics and Computer Science is an integral part of the "1 Decembrie 1918" University of Alba Iulia. It does not possess a distinct legal personality and is subordinate to the University Senate.
The Center's activity is carried out within the scope of fundamental and applied research in the fields of Mathematics and Computer Science, oriented towards the development of science, education, economy, services, and community relations.
Objectives and Research Directions
In the short and medium term, the Center aims to achieve the following objectives:
- Training academic stakeholders for high-performance scientific research;
- Establishing the thematic foundation for fundamental and applied research projects;
- Identifying and mobilizing funding sources for research projects;
- Initiating fundamental and applied research projects;
- Developing the infrastructure and informational base for research;
- Capitalizing on research results through various forms of community information, scientific communications, articles, patents, technology transfer, and co-authored works;
- Establishing and consolidating scientific links with universities and research institutions abroad;
- Integrating the Center's activities into the European circuit of scientific values;
- Attracting pre-university teachers, labor market employers, as well as collaborators from other fields of activity who can support the Center’s work into research projects;
- Providing consultancy on field-specific matters;
- Conducting extracurricular activities focused on current scientific topics involving student participation.
Specific Objectives
- Research in the fields of complex analysis and mathematical statistics;
- Studies in the field of artificial intelligence;
- Studies for the development of support systems for distance learning via intranet and internet;
- Designing and implementing managerial management systems in educational institutions;
- Research for the identification and control of dynamic processes;
- Mathematical modeling of economic phenomena and designing the computer systems that implement these models;

Research Directions
In accordance with the proposed objectives, as well as the research interests of the Center's members, the following research directions will be pursued:
- Data mining and intelligent agents
- Geometric function theory
- Dynamical systems
- Univalent functions
- Natural computing: nature-inspired computational models and applications in optimization problems
- Machine learning
Organizational Structure
The Research Center in Mathematics and Computer Science is led by a Coordinator elected for a 4-year term by the Center's personnel. The Research Center is served by research personnel. The research personnel carry out their activities within permanent research teams divided into the Mathematics and Computer Science branches.
Activity of the Center's Members
To ensure the proper fulfillment of the proposed objectives, members constantly involve themselves in the entire activity of the Center, participate actively in the projects run through the Center, and respect the principles dictated by the fair and efficient management of the Center's material and financial resources.
In order to disseminate the results of the research conducted through the Center, its members will also be involved in organizing national and international conferences within the Center's research directions and will contribute to the editing of specialized journals.
Resource Management
Human Resources
The Center's personnel consists of research personnel: computer scientists and mathematicians.
Material Resources
The Center's activities take place within the current offices of the Department of Computer Science, Mathematics and Elecronics, as well as in the Computer Science and Mathematics laboratories—specifically, the Multimedia Laboratory, the Numerical Methods Laboratory, the Applied Mathematics Laboratory, and the IT Projects Laboratory. These spaces are equipped with modern hardware and software facilities.
Financial Resources
The financial resources of the Center come from:
- Research grants
- Research contracts
- Design contracts
- Service provision contracts
- University funding
- Sponsorships
- Donations
- European funds
The attracted financial resources are managed for:
- Developing and maintaining the material research base;
- Covering overhead and operating expenses;
- Supporting mobility grants for exchange of experience, documentation, study, and research;
- Providing financial incentives for the Center's personnel by paying conference registration fees and article processing charges (APCs) for published papers;
- Organizing national and international scientific events;
- Editing journals and proceedings volumes;
- Carrying out research projects;
- Contributing to the development of the University.
Final and Transitory Provisions
The Center's activity will be carried out based on the Annual Research Plan. The achieved research results will be presented in a periodic Annual Self-evaluation Report compiled every year and also once every four years, the Center will be evaluated for internal certification and approved by the Senate.
