The Faculty of History and Philology

The Faculty of History and Philology also operates within "1 Decembrie 1918" University of Alba Iulia, cultivating, in Alba Iulia, the field of Humanities - Philology and History in a defining space.

The first programs in the field of Philology have been operating since 1992, diversifying the area of concern in educational and research activities. The specializations in the fields of History and Philology are, therefore, the oldest in the University. They fully benefit from the richness and value of the cultural treasure accumulated and preserved in the city of the Great Union, institutionally consecrating, at university level, the special significance that Alba Iulia has for national history.


The Faculty of History and Philology operates in accordance with its own Organization and Functioning Regulations. The mission and objectives assumed by the institution individualize it in the national higher education system through clarity, distinction, and specificity.

The Faculty of History and Philology ensures equal rights of access to forms of education for all Romanian citizens, without any form of discrimination. Citizens of the other Member States of the European Union, of the States belonging to the European Economic Area and of the Swiss Confederation shall enjoy the same rights.
The institutional development of the Faculty is based on the Strategic Development Plan endorsed by the Faculty Council and approved by the University Senate for a period of 4 years. Annual Operational Plans are developed based on the Strategic Development Plan.

The Faculty of History and Philology ensures equal rights of access to education for all Romanian citizens, without any form the activities being coordinated by the Erasmus institutional coordinator and the departmental coordinators of the faculty.
